Epoxy Molds
- Epoxy molds are the most cost efficient way to produce prototype parts, generally up to 100 parts, out of the real material. The advantages in having your part out of the real material is that it can be used for UL testing, field testing, or just to locate design flaws that might be changed before a production tool is made. Lead-time is also a benefit with epoxy tools because of the short turn around.
Aluminum Molds
- Aluminum molds are cost efficient when a short run of parts is needed, usually under 100,000 parts. Cost is less than a steel tool and typically produced faster. Aluminum molds can also be used in manufacturing structural foam parts. Structural foam is used when thicker walls are needed. Usually the exterior of the part is then painted for a better visual appearance.
Steel Molds
- Steel molds are used in the production of parts.
